DB2 V4.1 extends partition independence -- the ability to perform high-impact activities on one partition without affecting access to others -- to partitioned tablespaces even if they have non-partitioned secondary indexes. This result is achieved through the use of type 2 indexes that do not require index locking during structure modifications.
